Tauranga Ratewatch believes that:

  • New faces for Tauranga City Council / Environment BOP
  • Fresh approaches to running your city, reining in staff bureaucracy and soaring rates
  • No museum over the water
  • Basics (Welcome Bay Underpass) before luxuries (Clarkson's Stadium).
  • Devonport Rd for southern pipeline
  • Sort out public transport
  • Consultation with the city's youth and elderly
  • No preferences and binding agreements with City Strategic Partners. Tendering contracts to be transparent.
  • Support SprayWatch

NO MUSEUM OVER THE WATER

We believe the museum over the water project is too expensive and will be a waste of ratepayers' money. It should be put on hold for the meantime. An alternative site that costs less will be a preferable option. See more...

SPRAYWATCH

Our mission statement is to:
"Raise awareness of the danger of sprays, and to make the public bodies more accountable for their use of them, towards greater environmental safety."

In particular, at present, our push is for them to improve their accountability with their contractors.

- For example, despite TCC advertising that they have a 95% sprayfree policy- there is no monitoring to see if this is actually true.

- Another problem is that the contractors actually mix the sprays together to get a greater over-all kill. These mixes have not been checked for safety, and the latest science says that this makes for a negative synergy, and longer half life of the spray in the soil.

Thanks for looking. Much more to come.
